I am a certified English teacher and tutor in Connecticut and have experienced teaching many different classes at many different levels. My family and I live in beautiful Southbury, CT. I have two wonderful little boys – Ryan, who is 6, and Nathan, who is 3. I enjoy running long distances, reading science fiction and historical fiction for fun, and trying new things. My boys and I love all things Disney. The coolest thing I ever did was run a Ragnar Relay – 12 people in a team run over 200 miles all together over 36 hours! All together I ran about 20 of the 200. Now I spend most of my running time chasing around little Ryan!
My name is Austin Hedden and I am one of the science teachers here at IVLA. Along with teaching for IVLA, I also teach at a brick and mortar school in the mountain of Western North Carolina. When I was younger I never dreamed of becoming a teacher, but when I was in high school I fell in love with the art of teaching and that is what led me to where I am today. It is that experience of keeping your eyes open for your future career that I try and mirror towards my students.
Along with teaching, I also love running, hiking, mountain biking, and coaching soccer and swimming. While I do not always have a lot of free time, what little time I do have I love to spend with my wife and our goldendoodle, Ellie. Living in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina it leaves me with almost an endless amount of outdoor activities to do and not a day goes by that I do not pause and look at how beautiful the area is that I live in.
